Let me tell you about a benefit of working in the travel industry – the first to hear about new and exciting tours and adventures. If we are lucky, we get a complimentary ticket. Well that is what I’m excited to talk about today. A new glacier and wildlife tour that includes a courtesy ticket made available to us from Major Marine tours. “Limited Space” and “Book Early” is the standard for everyone, even more so if one of these rare occasions happens by.
It’s been ten years since I’ve gone on a glacier cruise; it was to the Portage Glacier. Back then, you could see the glacier from the visitor’s center. This new tour is going out of Whittier on one of the famous Major Marine wildlife and glacier tours. The tour is in August, so watch the photo gallery and this blog for the report!

A trip to a glacier should be high on the agenda of every Alaska Vacationer! These ancient, massive mountains of dazzlingly blue ice are truly awe-inspiring, and should not be missed! There are lots of different ways to experience glaciers in Alaska, from hiking up to one, to a helicopter glacier landing. Probably the most common way to get up close to an Alaskan Glacier is to take a Glacier Cruise on a smaller ship. A Glacier Cruise will put you up-close and personal with some massive tidewater glaciers, and allow you to spot local wildlife, and sea-life along the way.
The city of Valdez is located in South-central Alaska, on the Northeast tip of Prince William Sound. The city has a beautiful setting; ringed by majestic mountains on all sides. It’s climate is relatively mild, which can be attributed to the marine currents in and weather generated by the Pacific Ocean. You can get to Valdez by driving via the Richardson highway, by Air, and by Ferry.
