Weather in Alaska

The saying goes that if you don’t like the weather in Alaska, wait 5 minutes and check again.  Nothing could be truer.  With all the massive mountains, deep valleys and rugged coast (bordering two oceans), Alaska’s weather can be predictably unpredictable.

Sometimes we get cold weather from Canada; sometimes we get a warm front off Mexico.  Other times Russia throws us a ball. Continue reading

Amazing time in Denali National Park

I walked out of my room that morning to the freshest air, the crispest view of the scenery. I took a picture. I called to my husband, to have a look with me. We just stood there in awe noticing everything from the farthest tree to the dragonflies zooming by. We looked forward to our flightseeing tour in Denali National Park, through the winding valleys of the Alaska Range, and the indescribable vision of Denali herself. It was a flight into the Denali Backcountry Lodge where we stayed for 3 days. We meet some amazing people from all over the world; we went on ATV adventures that were like a dream come true. We saw moose and fox; we saw so many more animals on the trip back on the bus ride.
It was a short adventure that I can’t recommend more. The staff was so friendly, answered our questions, I am sure that they had been asked hundreds of times. Now that we’ve been there we understand what “remote” really means. And the people of the Denali Backcountry Lodge brought some civilization to the wild country in a very unobtrusive way for us to experience.
Thank you,
Jan and Rob Texas

Enjoy your Summer

We’re almost halfway through June.  I can’t believe how fast summer is going by!  So far this summer I have gone Frolfing on two different courses, hiking twice, and camping once.  It may seem like a lot to someone that wasn’t raised in Alaska, but to me that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  With only 3 more months of summer, I plan to do things that I didn’t think I could. Rainy Days

As would be expected, Alaska experiences the occasional rainy day.  In the unfortunate event you are visiting Alaska, and Mother Nature decides it’s time for a little rain, here are a few ideas we have for keeping you busy.

In Anchorage, a really popular year-round rainy day activity is a visit to the Museum.  Check out the local Alaskan artists, and learn about the rich cultures around the state.  Sometimes the Museum has exceptional exhibits that are brought up from the Smithsonian and other larger museums in the Lower-48.

If you are in Fairbanks, you can take a short road-trip to Chena Hotsprings, where you can soak in the natural springs or take a trip to the Aurora Ice Museum.  The Aurora Ice Museum is the largest indoor Ice Exhibit in the world!  It’s sure to leave you with memories for a lifetime.

While in Seward on a rainy day, be sure to check out the Alaska Sealife Center.  It hosts the largest array of sea mammals and other animals in the state of Alaska!  Be sure to check out the puffins and the octopus!  You can take lots of tours around the center, and some are just for kids.

With that information in tow, be sure to look at a rainy day in Alaska with a sense of new opportunity, not wasted time!
